First Official Group Badge

The 4th Westmeath Moate Scout Group is proud to officially unveil our very first group badge, marking an important milestone in the history of our newly formed Scout Group.

Formed in 2025, our Group set out from the beginning to ensure that our identity would be shaped by the voices, ideas, and creativity of our youth members. This badge is the result of that commitment.

The design process began with a simple but meaningful exercise: our youth members were invited to share their own drawings and ideas for what they felt best represented our Group and our community. The response was enthusiastic and imaginative, with a wide variety of themes and symbols submitted.

From these initial ideas, several clear and common themes emerged. Our leaders then worked collaboratively to develop four example badge designs, each reflecting the values and concepts highlighted by our youth members. These designs were then put forward for a group-wide vote, ensuring that the final decision was made collectively by our young people.

We are delighted to share that the chosen badge is one that truly reflects both our identity and our local heritage.

The final design proudly features our Group colours of blue and green, symbolising unity, nature, and our connection to Scouting values. It also includes two tents, representing adventure, camping, and the outdoor experiences at the heart of Scouting, along with a campfire, symbolising friendship, storytelling, and community.

At the centre of the badge is the statue of Gráinne Og, wearing our Scout Group necker. This inclusion holds particular significance, as the statue is a well-known landmark in Moate and was strongly supported by our youth members throughout both the initial brainstorming and final selection stages. It serves as a meaningful connection between our Group and the local community we are proud to be part of.

As a new Scout Group, this badge represents more than just an emblem. It represents the voices of our youth members, the support of our leaders, and the shared values that will continue to guide us as we grow together.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our youth members for their creativity, enthusiasm, and involvement throughout this process, as well as to our leaders for helping bring these ideas to life.

This is the first of many milestones for the 4th Westmeath Moate Scout Group, and we look forward to seeing our badge worn with pride in the adventures ahead.
